If you are wondering how you will get free electricity for the rest of your life, which is how solar works, we have the answers for you. It is actually a simple 5-step process, as shown in the diagram.
Step 1: The sun’s rays activate the cells that are embedded on each solar panel. These solar cells convert the solar power into electric current. This process is due to the positively and negatively charged silicon components in each solar cell. These cells are also referred to as photovoltaic cells. They absorb sunlight in the day time.
Step 2: The solar systems generate electric current in a form called DC or direct current. This is usually not how most homes are powered. We use AC or alternating current to power our homes. With the help of a solar inverter, the electric current generated by the solar panels is converted to AC to power our homes.
Step 3: The electric power is then passed on to the entire house for usage. It helps power all your day-to-day electrical equipment and electronics.
Step 4: The entire consumption is recorded by a net meter outside your home. It calculates the flow of energy to and from your home. If you are unable to generate enough solar energy on non-sunny days, then the meter records of the amount of grid energy that you use. On days when you have produced more energy than you have consumed, that energy flows into the grid, thus helping you get credit for it.
Step 5: The net meter is connected to the grid that supplies electric current in the traditional way. It is activated when enough solar power is not produced or when the excess solar power is to be distributed in the grid.
